| A
site
of great historical importance. It was once home to
one of The Great Seven Wonders of the World.
Pharo's Lighthouse was said to be 500 feet high with
a beam of light and transparent star which allowed ships
to be seen that would have been invisible to the naked
eye.
The Fortress itself offers insight into the more recent
history of Alexandria. Built by Mamluk Sultan Qaitbey
around 1480, it was damaged by the British Navy and
is now home to many different artefacts from Lord Horatio's
sunken fleet. |
