Probably
of the most visited temples in Thebes. The temple itself
has undergone many changes built originally by Amenhotep
III in the 18th Dynasty with later additions by Ramses
II in the 19th Dynasty and more recently murals and stonework
by Romans and Alexander The Great also helped in the restoration
and modification of the temple.
Over many years and abundance of sand and silt covered
the mystery at the centre of this site until its excavation
in 1881. A Colonnade of Sphinx's lead directly from Luxor
Temple to Karnak. This however is largely buried under
Luxor City.
The Temple itself gives an insight into the many different
types of architecture and is a great prelude to visiting
Karnak.
