Erected in honour of Emperor Diocletian around A.D 300. However as impressive as this Pillar is, the actual site is all that remains of a great Acropolis. (Serapeum). It is said that it was reached by 100 steps and it was heavily decorated in marble & precious metals.

Some of its contents can be seen at the Greco-Roman Museum.
