Tanis like Bubastis was once also the capital of Egypt but today very little remains. However the fallen carved stones and broken statues are enough to stir the imagination.

Tanis has provided some of the richest tombs that have rivalled that of Tutankhamen with the discovery of a few royal tombs filled with riches still intact.
